Premiere Pro is Adobe’s video editing software program employed by creative professionals looking to manipulate high-definition video. Premiere Pro CS3 introduced many significant changes over previous versions of the program, such as high-quality slow motion with time mapping and direct-to-disc recording. However, in order for you to take advantage of these features, the software must run on a computer that can handle them.
Processor
To run CS3 on Windows, you need an Intel Pentium 4 processor with a minimum of 1.4 GHz for standard-definition video and 3.4 GHz for high-definition video codecs. High-definition video requires an Intel Centrino, Intel Xeon or Intel Core Duo with dual 2.8-GHz processors. AMD processors must be SSE2-enabled. If you're a Mac user, your choice of processor is a little less confining, as any multicore Intel processor will work fine.
Operating System
You can run CS3 on Windows XP Professional or Home Edition with Service Pack 2, as well as Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate or Enterprise. While version of Premiere Pro is only certified for 32-bit editions, it also works on 64-bit editions. On Apple computers, CS3 is limited to Mac OS X v10.4.910.5, or Leopard.
RAM
Regardless of your operating system, your computer should have at least 1GB of RAM for editing standard definition and 2GB of RAM for working with high definition. Premiere Pro uses all available memory on your computer, and Adobe recommends not to use other applications when running CS3.
Hard Disk Space and Speed
System Requirements For Adobe Illustrator
The hard disk space and speed requirements are identical for Windows and Mac OS X: 10GB of free hard-disk space, with additional space needed during installation. If you plan on storing videos on the hard drive, you will need at least an additional 20GB of free space. Hard drives should have a spin speed of 7,200 RPM for DV and HDV. Striped disk array storage with a specification of RAID 0 is the minimum for HD editing, but Adobe recommends a SCSI disk subsystem.
Monitor
Viewing videos on CS3 requires a monitor resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 pixels when running on Windows with a 32-bit video card. On an Apple computer with a 32-bit video card, you need a monitor resolution of 1,280 by 960 pixels.
Sound Card
On a Windows operating system, you need sound cards that support Microsoft DirectX or ASIO sound control drivers, while for Macs, you need a sound card that is compatible with Core Audio, the Mac OS X interface for dealing with sound.
Capture Card
For Windows and Macs, you can use any OHCI-compliant capture card with an OHCI-compatible IEEE 1394 port for DV and HDV capturing.
Optical Drive
To run CS3, your computer, regardless of the operating system, must have a DVD-ROM drive. To burn video to a DVD, you need a standard DVD+-R burner, and to copy a high-definition video to a Blu-ray disc, you need a Blu-ray burner.
Internet Connection
To activate and update Premiere Pro CS3, your computer must have an active connection to the Internet.
